Strengthening Ties: India and Poland Discuss Strategic Partnership and Future Cooperation

In a significant meeting in New Delhi, India and Poland's officials reviewed their strategic partnership and outlined key objectives for the 2024-2028 Action Plan. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in defense, technology, and economic sectors, reaffirming their commitment to combat terrorism. This meeting follows a series of engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, including a recent consultation round that emphasized collaboration in various fields. As Poland emerges as India's largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, both nations are keen on advancing their relationship further, including support for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Bilateral Discussions in New Delhi


New Delhi: On Thursday, Sibi George, the Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), met with Wladyslaw T Bartoszewski, the Polish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, to evaluate the bilateral strategic partnership and outline the key objectives of the 2024-2028 Action Plan between India and Poland.


After the meeting, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X, "Secretary (West) Sibi George had a fruitful discussion with Polish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Wladyslaw T Bartoszewski in New Delhi. They reviewed the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and discussed the key deliverables of the Action Plan (2024-2028)."


The bilateral relationship was elevated to a 'Strategic Partnership' during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Poland in 2024, which also led to the establishment of a five-year Joint Action Plan for 2024-2028.


Earlier in January, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to explore advancements in economic, technological, defense, mining, people-to-people, and multilateral cooperation.


EAM Jaishankar noted on X, "My meeting with DPM and FM Radoslaw Sikorski of Poland allowed for an open dialogue regarding our bilateral relations and global issues. We discussed enhancing our cooperation in economic, technology, defense, mining, P2P, and multilateral areas. I appreciate Poland’s backing for stronger India-EU relations."


In December, the two nations conducted the 11th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, agreeing to accelerate collaboration in defense, security, science and technology, cyber security, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).


During the meeting co-chaired by Sibi George and Wladyslaw T Bartoszewski, both parties reaffirmed their dedication to combating terrorism in all its forms.


The MEA reported, "The 11th round of India-Poland Foreign Office Consultations was co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and Polish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Wladyslaw T Bartoszewski in New Delhi today. Both sides reviewed the progress made under the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, particularly regarding the Five-Year Action Plan (2024-2028) established during PM Narendra Modi's visit to Poland in August 2024."


They also agreed to hasten cooperation in defense, security, science and technology, cyber security, and AI. Both sides reiterated their commitment to fighting terrorism in all its forms. Poland stands as India's largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, and the Polish representatives expressed their support for the swift conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
