Rohit Jain Takes on Deputy Governor Role at RBI
Rohit Jain has been named the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), with his term set to begin on or after May 3. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has sanctioned his appointment for a duration of three years, as confirmed by a notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Jain will take over from T Rabi Sankar, whose tenure concludes today.
With nearly thirty years of experience, Rohit Jain has held various roles within the RBI, including supervisory positions and human resource management. He was previously appointed as an executive director in December 2020, where he managed the Department of Supervision, focusing on Risk, Analytics, and Vulnerability Assessment.
Jain possesses a Master’s degree in Commerce and an MBA. Additionally, he has earned several professional qualifications, such as the International Certificate in Banking Risk and Regulation (ICBRR), Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB), and Certified Bank Trainer.
The RBI is led by one Governor and supported by four Deputy Governors, two of whom are promoted internally, while the other two, including Poonam Gupta and Swaminathan J., are appointed from outside the organization.
