Reliance's Stance on Competition

New Delhi: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) expressed its confidence in the face of competition within the satellite communications arena, including from Elon Musk's Starlink. The company emphasized that all participants must adhere to Indian regulations.

This statement marks RIL's first direct response following a series of public comments from Musk regarding competition in India's satellite communications sector. Musk had previously criticized Reliance, suggesting that increased competition would ultimately benefit consumers.

In response to Musk's remarks, Reliance stated, "We have never shied away from competition; rather, we view it as the ultimate measure of who can best serve customers."

Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance, entered India's competitive telecom market in 2016 without any customers and has since gained the trust of over 530 million users, providing some of the most affordable data and robust digital infrastructure globally.

The company further stated, "We welcome competition in satellite communications, including from Starlink. All players, including Jio, must prioritize serving the Indian populace and comply with local laws and regulations."

Reliance highlighted that, like any Indian business, it has flourished in an environment that encourages both domestic and foreign investments aimed at enhancing the lives of citizens.

The company concluded by reiterating that the openness to competition is grounded in the rule of law, as affirmed by the Indian government, which applies the same standards to all applicants, whether domestic or international. Jio's satellite services are currently pending necessary approvals.
