New Delhi, April 2: In a remarkable achievement, India's defence exports reached a record high of ₹38,424 crore during the financial year 2025-26, reflecting a substantial increase of 62.66% from the previous year's exports of ₹23,622 crore, as reported by the government on Thursday.


The contributions to this growth came from Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and the private sector, which accounted for 54.84% and 45.16% of the total exports, respectively.


This milestone aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to elevate India to a leading position among global defence exporters, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.


Exports from DPSUs saw an impressive rise of 151% compared to the last fiscal year, while private companies demonstrated their strength with a 14% increase.


“In terms of export value, the private sector contributed ₹17,353 crore, while DPSUs accounted for ₹21,071 crore. In the previous fiscal year, these figures were ₹15,233 crore and ₹8,389 crore, respectively,” the official statement noted.


India is now exporting defence equipment to over 80 nations as of FY 2025-26, with the number of exporters increasing to 145 from 128, marking a 13.3% growth from the last fiscal year.


This trend underscores the growing global acceptance of Indian-made defence products and the sector's enhanced integration into international supply chains.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the outstanding performance of the Department of Defence Production, Indian defence exporters, and all involved parties, emphasizing that India is progressing towards becoming a global hub for defence manufacturing.


In a post on X, he remarked that under PM Modi's visionary leadership, India is crafting a remarkable success story in defence exports.


The ongoing efforts to improve the business environment and support defence exporters have laid the groundwork for a performance-driven and globally competitive defence industry.
