Odisha's Transport Authority Now Accepts Cash Payments for E-Challans

In a significant move, Odisha's State Transport Authority has decided to accept cash payments for e-challans issued for traffic violations. This change comes in response to complaints from vehicle owners who faced difficulties with online payments, such as issues with OTPs and outdated mobile numbers. A designated officer at RTO offices will now handle these cash transactions, ensuring that only the vehicle owner can make payments for their dues. This initiative aims to streamline the payment process and enhance compliance among motorists. For those who prefer online payments, the mParivahan app and the official website remain available.

New Payment Options for Traffic Violations in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has announced that all regional transport officers (RTOs) will now accept cash payments for e-challans issued to drivers for traffic infractions, according to officials.

This decision follows numerous complaints from vehicle owners who encountered challenges while attempting to pay fines online, including issues like not receiving one-time passwords (OTPs) and having outdated mobile numbers linked to their accounts.

With this new system, a designated officer at RTO offices will handle cash payments for e-challans.

Only the vehicle owner or the individual responsible for the violation will be permitted to settle outstanding e-challan dues, as stated by a transport department representative.

Upon payment, a receipt will be issued, and the transaction will be recorded online.

Funds collected from e-challan payments will be deposited into the government treasury by the next working day.

For those preferring online transactions, payments can still be made through the transport department's mParivahan app and the official website.
