Odisha's Tourism Boost: New Initiatives for Homestays and Adventure Activities

The Odisha Tourism Department has signed several MoUs to enhance homestays and promote adventure and heritage tourism. Strengthening Odisha's Tourism Sector


Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, the Odisha Tourism Department entered into multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing homestays and promoting both adventure and heritage tourism within the state.


One of the agreements was made with the State Bank of India (SBI) to facilitate financial backing for homestay projects, with Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida present at the signing.


In a bid to boost adventure tourism, another MoU was established with the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association.


Additionally, the Department of Tourism partnered with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to fortify the framework for heritage tourism.


During her address, Parida emphasized the vital role tourism plays in creating job opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and empowering communities to actively participate in Odisha's development.


She stressed the importance of integrating technology, sustainability, heritage, innovation, and community involvement to enhance Odisha's tourism landscape and improve visitor experiences across various destinations.


Parida called on stakeholders to ensure that tourism benefits local communities, creating new avenues for youth, women, entrepreneurs, artisans, and service providers in the tourism sector.


She also pointed out the significance of digital advancements and new technologies in enhancing destination visibility, accessibility to tourism services, and overall visitor satisfaction.


The partnerships established on World Tourism Day are expected to pave the way for a more inclusive, sustainable, and future-oriented tourism industry in Odisha.


Chief Secretary Anu Garg highlighted the necessity of collaborative efforts, institutional partnerships, and innovation to strengthen the state's tourism ecosystem.


Garg reiterated the need for tourism development that not only creates opportunities for local communities but also ensures high-quality visitor experiences and sustainable destination management.


During the event, Parida inaugurated luxury coaches from the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) to improve tourist mobility and enhance travel experiences in Odisha.


The event also featured a screening of 'Mann Ki Baat' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with a video presentation showcasing Odisha's diverse tourism offerings and initiatives.


A virtual flag-off of the OTDC electric boat at Barkul and a catamaran at Chilika Lake was also part of the program.


ASI Director General Yadubir Singh Rawat underscored the importance of preserving and promoting India's rich heritage as a key component of the tourism experience.


During the event, Provisional Registration Certificates (PRCs) were awarded to 17 beneficiaries under the Homestay scheme.


The day-long celebration of World Tourism Day concluded with the inauguration of a light and sound show at Khandagiri by Parida.
