A Commitment to Governance Reform


Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized Odisha's proactive role in India's governance reform initiatives.


During the opening of a two-day National Conference focused on Good Governance practices at Lok Seva Bhawan's Convention Centre, CM Majhi stated that the state is collaborating closely with the central government on governance reforms.


In his keynote speech, he showcased Odisha's advancements in administrative modernization, including initiatives like paperless budgeting and digital grievance resolution systems.


Majhi expressed pride in Odisha's contribution, stating, "We are not just hosts but active partners in India's pursuit of responsive and transparent governance."


He highlighted the state's digital advancements, referencing key government projects such as the Odisha Secretariat Workflow Automation System (OSWAS) and the innovative 'Work Passbook' as examples of enhanced transparency, efficiency, and citizen involvement.


The Chief Minister urged a transition from traditional bureaucracy to a more responsive approach, advocating for a focus on data over paperwork and outcomes over mere compliance.


He remarked, "This conference is more than just an event; it represents a chance to influence the future of governance in India. Let it mark a significant step towards a New India that is efficient, fair, and compassionate," aligning his vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.


Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Jitendra Singh, also spoke at the event, highlighting the necessity of regional cooperation in governance reforms.


He noted, "Good governance involves transforming challenges into opportunities. By hosting these conferences in various states, we ensure that governance models are both locally applicable and nationally unified."


The conference, co-hosted by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Odisha Government, attracted over 400 delegates from across the nation.


The gathering included ministers, senior officials, and high-ranking officers from various states, serving as a platform for exchanging best practices, innovations, and policy insights aimed at enhancing governance frameworks throughout the country.
