Strengthening Ties Between Odisha and Tottori Prefecture
Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, officials from the Odisha government engaged in talks with representatives from Japan to finalize a friendship agreement with Tottori prefecture. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration in various sectors, including industrial growth, skill enhancement, tourism, and cultural exchange.
This meeting followed a discussion between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Japanese Consul General Ishikawa Yoshihisa in Kolkata, where they explored ways to strengthen the relationship between Odisha and Tottori.
The meeting included Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Consul General Yoshihisa, and Hemant Sharma, the Additional Chief Secretary overseeing Home, Industries, and I&PR departments.
According to an official from the Chief Secretary's Office, the discussions centered on the proposed agreement and sought to identify opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The draft agreement outlines potential collaboration in economic development, tourism promotion, youth and student exchanges, personnel exchanges, cultural initiatives, and environmental cooperation.
Both parties also deliberated on organizing coordination meetings involving the Odisha government, the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, and the Tottori prefectural government to finalize the partnership's modalities and timelines.
During the discussions, the Odisha government emphasized the state's expanding industrial landscape and the emerging opportunities in advanced manufacturing, skill development, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
Topics such as Japanese language training, student and faculty exchange programs, promotion of Buddhist circuit tourism, sports collaboration, and industry partnerships were also significant points of discussion.
