New Delhi, Aug 12: N Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of Tata Sons, has announced his resignation and will not pursue re-appointment when his term concludes in February 2027, as reported by a news outlet.
This announcement comes just before the Annual General Meeting of Tata Sons, which is set for August 18.
In his statement, Chandrasekaran expressed, "After 40 years of my professional journey with the Tata Group, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this esteemed organization. It has been a privilege and a significant responsibility to lead Tata Sons for the last decade."
Chandrasekaran has held the position of Chairman since January 2017. He began his career with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern in 1987 and became the CEO in 2009 before taking over Tata Sons.
In July 2025, Tata Sons had outlined two prerequisites for extending Chandrasekaran's tenure: the holding company must remain unlisted, and a resolution regarding the stake held by the Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) Group must be achieved.
Tata Sons serves as the main investment holding entity for the Tata Group, with Tata Trusts owning approximately 66 percent of the company.
Chandrasekaran's departure occurs as the conglomerate is in the midst of restructuring its businesses and addressing the overall ownership and capital framework of the group.
Following this news, shares of various Tata Group companies experienced a decline during Wednesday's morning trading session.
Tata Consumer Products saw a drop of over 1 percent, trading at Rs 1,066 per share on the NSE, while Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) fell by as much as 5 percent.
Shares of Titan Company decreased by 1.03 percent to Rs 5,075.10, and Tata Power Company fell by 0.9 percent to Rs 376.60.
