Maruti Suzuki Expands Electric Vehicle Lineup
Hyderabad: Maruti Suzuki India, a leader in the automotive sector, announced plans to introduce four additional electric vehicles by the year 2031, as revealed by a senior company official during an event in Hyderabad.
The company celebrated a significant achievement by handing over 108 units of its e-VITARA to customers in a single day, highlighting the increasing consumer confidence in India's largest car manufacturer as it moves towards sustainable mobility, according to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales.
"Our midterm strategy includes launching four more electric vehicles by 2031, and we will cater to various market segments," Banerjee stated to the press.
He also mentioned that Maruti Suzuki aims to secure the top position in the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) market by 2031, adapting its strategy based on market dynamics.
In response to a question regarding the West Asia crisis, he indicated that the company would need to raise prices due to rising commodity costs, with specific details to be announced soon.
Banerjee highlighted that in the last fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki exported nearly 450,000 vehicles, and the effects of the West Asia conflict are still being evaluated.
The e-VITARA, produced exclusively at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, has become the highest exported BEV from India in FY26.
So far, over 25,000 units of the e-VITARA have been shipped to 44 countries, with plans to reach over 100 countries, according to company sources.
To enhance the accessibility and reliability of electric mobility in India, Maruti Suzuki aims to establish a network of over 100,000 public charging stations by 2030, as reported by sources.
Currently, the company has already installed more than 2,000 exclusive charging points across the nation.
Maruti Suzuki also boasts a comprehensive network of EV-ready service workshops, supported by a specially trained workforce of 150,000 to ensure customer satisfaction.
The e-VITARA is Maruti Suzuki's inaugural Battery Electric Vehicle, designed for both domestic and international markets.
