Maruti Suzuki Expands Solar Energy Capacity to Promote Sustainability
Maruti Suzuki's Commitment to Renewable Energy
New Delhi, June 4: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reaffirmed its dedication to increasing the use of renewable energy within its operations by announcing a significant expansion of its solar energy capacity by 30MWp (megawatt-peak) through two new initiatives.
The company has successfully launched a 20MWp solar power project at its new site in Kharkhoda, Haryana, and has also added an additional 10MWp capacity at its Manesar facility.
With these developments, Maruti Suzuki's total solar capacity has risen from 49MWp to 79MWp over the past year.
Looking ahead, the automaker aims to achieve a solar capacity of 319MWp by the fiscal year 2030-31, supported by an investment exceeding Rs 925 crore.
The firm is also increasing its reliance on green power sourced from state electricity boards, which will significantly reduce its dependence on non-renewable energy.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, “In alignment with our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation's Environment Vision 2050 and the Indian government's emphasis on renewable energy, we are progressively enhancing our renewable energy usage.”
He further added, “As we ramp up production to four million units, we are equally committed to ambitious sustainable energy practices. This solar power expansion is a vital step towards fostering a cleaner and more sustainable energy ecosystem, positively impacting the environment.”
Through ongoing efforts, Maruti Suzuki anticipates that the share of renewable energy in its total electricity consumption will approach 85 percent by FY2030-31.
The company is actively adopting green manufacturing practices across all its facilities.
In the four-wheeler segment for May, Maruti reported a 3 percent year-on-year increase in volumes, with a 6 percent drop in domestic sales being counterbalanced by an impressive 80 percent rise in exports.
