Legal Issues Arise for Nitish Kumar Reddy Amid Injury Setback
Nitish Kumar Reddy Faces Legal Action
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who plays for Team India and Sunrisers Hyderabad, is currently embroiled in a legal dispute. His former management agency, Square The One Private Limited, has filed a lawsuit against him in the Delhi High Court, claiming he owes them INR 5 crore in unpaid dues.
Injury Compounds Legal Troubles
The 23-year-old cricketer is part of the ongoing Test series against England but was not included in the playing XI for the first match at Headingley, Leeds. He participated in the subsequent Tests at Edgbaston and Lord's but has now been ruled out of the series due to a knee injury reportedly sustained during a gym session in Beckenham. This unfortunate timing of the legal issues could hinder his career progression and future endorsement opportunities.
Court Petition Filed by Former Agency
Square The One Private Limited decided to escalate the matter to court after failing to receive the outstanding payments from Reddy. They have filed a petition for non-payment of INR 5 crore. Reports indicate that the relationship between Reddy and the agency soured during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, leading him to sign with another agency.
Allegations of Contract Breach
The agency has accused Reddy of violating their agreement and has invoked Section 11(6) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, alleging he breached the contract and failed to pay the owed amount. The Delhi High Court is set to hear the case on July 28, with the agency requesting an independent arbitrator to resolve the dispute.
Self-Secured Deals and Agency's Claims
Sources close to the agency revealed that while most disputes are settled privately, Reddy's case is different. He allegedly claimed to have secured his own deals and refused to pay the dues. The agency had been managing his endorsements since 2021, helping him establish several brand partnerships before their relationship deteriorated.
Rehabilitation Plans for Reddy
Following his exclusion from the Test series, Reddy has returned home and is expected to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
