Farmers Register for Kharif Paddy Procurement
Bhubaneswar: As of now, 94,657 farmers have signed up to sell paddy for the Kharif season of 2026-27, with Baleshwar district leading in registrations, according to official reports released on Monday.
This information was disclosed during a meeting of an inter-ministerial committee, presided over by Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The meeting aimed to ensure a streamlined and transparent registration process for farmers ahead of the upcoming procurement season.
Officials confirmed that registration on the AgriStack platform is not compulsory for farmers, ensuring that all farmers have the chance to sell their paddy. The registration period will remain open until October.
AgriStack serves as a comprehensive platform for farmers, consolidating their data and providing a unique Farmer ID upon registration, which helps in accessing government benefits. So far, approximately 600,000 farmers have registered on this platform.
Additionally, special guidelines are being developed for sharecroppers, with the government actively addressing potential issues, as noted by an official present at the meeting.
A review of the previous Rabi season indicated that 20,46,185 metric tonnes of paddy were procured from 3,63,553 farmers, marking an increase from the 19,18,528 metric tonnes procured in the 2024-25 season.
The official also mentioned that ₹4,844 crore has been allocated for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and input assistance to 3,63,149 farmers during the Rabi season.
The committee has set a goal to register at least 50% of farmers. To meet this target, the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, and Cooperation departments will work closely together, with support from the Revenue department. Registrations are currently being processed at local PACS and CSCs.
As of now, 94,657 farmers have registered to sell paddy for the Kharif 2026-27 season, with Baleshwar district having the highest number of registrations.
To combat misinformation regarding the registration process and sales, awareness campaigns are being initiated at the sub-division and Gram Panchayat levels. Village Agricultural Workers (VAWs) will assist farmers with their applications, and it has been mandated that farmers receive a registration receipt upon submission.
Farmers are now provided with two types of registration slips: one for AgriStack registration and another for those opting out of it. Both slips are valid.
The meeting also included the participation of Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, FS&CW Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, and Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, along with senior officials from various departments.
