Jio Platforms Achieves Unprecedented IPO Success

New Delhi: Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL) has made headlines by fully subscribing its public offering in just 100 minutes after its launch on Wednesday, marking it as the fastest IPO subscription in history.

The public offering, valued at Rs 30,213 crore, featured a price range between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119 per share. Institutional investors showed immediate interest, with the Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB) segment achieving full subscription within the first 10 minutes and nearly doubling in under half an hour, as reported by the BSE.

The QIB segment ultimately saw a subscription rate of 2.86 times, while the overall offering was subscribed 0.83 times. Remarkably, the total subscription surpassed the initial target within the first 100 minutes.

The IPO will remain open until October 23 and is anticipated to surpass Hyundai Motor India's Rs 27,870 crore IPO from 2024, potentially becoming the largest in India by value.

At the upper limit of its price band, Jio's valuation stands at approximately USD 108 billion.

This offering includes a fresh issuance of up to 27 crore shares, with no existing shareholders selling their stakes.

On Monday, the company allocated shares worth around Rs 8,110 crore to 212 anchor investors at the maximum price of Rs 1,119 per share, ahead of the public offering. The demand for these anchor shares exceeded Rs 2.5 lakh crore, indicating more than 30 times the available amount, with total demand estimated at about USD 26 billion.

Managing Director Akash Ambani expressed confidence in Jio Platforms' potential, emphasizing that the company aims to leverage its technology, artificial intelligence, and cloud capabilities to foster growth beyond its telecom roots. He described the Reliance Industries subsidiary as a technology-focused entity ahead of what is poised to be India's largest initial public offering.

Ambani stated, "There is no either-or at Jio: the network is our technology," during an interview, underscoring the company's proprietary 5G core, cloud-native radio access network, and software platform that serves over 533 million customers.

He added, "Connectivity was the first product we built on that platform. Digital services, AI, and cloud are what we are layering on top of it now."

As the IPO unfolds, investors are keenly evaluating whether the leading telecom operator can transform its extensive customer base into higher-margin revenues through digital services, enterprise technology, and AI, especially as subscriber growth alone becomes a less significant growth driver.
