Iran's Conditions for Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Dubai: On Monday, Iran declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States fulfills its demands.

Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that the responsibility lies with the US to rectify its unlawful and harmful actions, particularly referencing the blockade imposed on Iranian ports.

Iran's demands include the lifting of the blockade, compensation for damages incurred during the conflict, the removal of economic sanctions, and the release of Iran's assets that have been frozen.

The closure of this crucial waterway, which typically facilitates about 20% of the global oil trade, has emerged as a significant and enduring impact of the ongoing conflict. This situation has kept energy prices at the forefront of political discussions in the US, especially with the midterm elections approaching in November.

Additionally, Iran is engaged in separate negotiations with Oman regarding transit options through the strait, which may include establishing a temporary shipping route.
