IndiGo Appoints Vikram Singh Mehta as New Chairman

India's largest airline, IndiGo, has announced the appointment of Vikram Singh Mehta as its new chairman, succeeding Venkataramani Sumantran. Mehta has been a member of the board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, which operates IndiGo, since May 2022. According to a statement, Sumantran was appointed as chairman in May 2022 and has guided the board through a robust recovery and remarkable growth over the past three years following the pandemic.
Who is Vikram Singh Mehta?
Mehta began his career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1978 and has since held significant roles in the energy and policy sectors. His experience includes serving as the chairman of Shell Group of Companies in India and as CEO of Shell Markets and Shell Chemicals in Egypt. He has also been involved with various company boards. A graduate in Mathematics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, Mehta holds master's degrees in Politics and Economics from Oxford University and in Energy Economics from Tufts University. According to information available on the IndiGo website, the company's board includes six members, including co-founder Rahul Bhatia.

Meanwhile, IndiGo's shares closed at ₹5,324.85 on the BSE, reflecting an increase of ₹11.70 or 0.22% from the previous close of ₹5,313.15. The stock opened at ₹5,322.65 and reached an intraday high of ₹5,355.70, with an intraday low of ₹5,297.45. The 52-week high and low for the shares are ₹5,665.65 and ₹3,778.50, respectively, with a market capitalization of ₹2,05,773.17.
