India's UPI Transactions Surge in June 2026
UPI Transactions Reach New Heights
In June 2026, India's digital payments landscape saw remarkable growth, with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) handling an impressive 22.72 billion transactions, as reported by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This platform enabled transactions totaling Rs 28.92 lakh crore during the month, showcasing the ongoing consumer preference for quick digital payment solutions. When compared to June of the previous year, transaction numbers surged by 23%, while the total payment value rose by 20%, solidifying UPI's status as the leading digital payment method in India.
Despite a slight decrease from the peak figures recorded in May, UPI achieved its highest daily transaction average since its launch, processing around 757 million transactions each day throughout June. The average daily transaction value reached Rs 96,405 crore, underscoring the extensive usage of this payment network by both consumers and businesses. Month-over-month, June's transaction volume dipped from May's 23.20 billion transactions worth Rs 29.90 lakh crore. In April, UPI recorded 22.35 billion transactions valued at Rs 29.03 lakh crore.
Growth Driven by Small-Ticket Payments
Experts in the industry suggest that these latest statistics reflect UPI's establishment as the go-to payment method for daily purchases. Analysts believe that future increases in transaction values may stem from innovations like Credit on UPI and UPI-linked credit cards, which could facilitate higher-value transactions on the platform.
