India's Fertilizer Supply Remains Robust Amid Challenges

According to Dr. Krishna Kant Pathak, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fertilizers, the overall fertilizer scenario in India is currently "good," with levels exceeding normal expectations. He attributed this positive situation to enhanced planning and effective logistical strategies implemented by the Government of India, which have ensured that farmers receive timely supplies. Furthermore, the ministry confirmed that there is an adequate stock of organic manure to meet the agricultural needs of the country. In light of recent supply challenges, India successfully imported over 50 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea from various nations, including Oman, Georgia, Russia, Finland, Turkey, and the Netherlands. Additionally, Additional Secretary in the Department of Fertilisers, Aparna Sharma, reported that there have been no shortages thus far. She noted that the availability of urea is at 71.58 lakh metric tonnes, significantly higher than the required 18.17 lakh metric tonnes, while DAP availability stands at 22.35 lakh metric tonnes against a need of 5.90 lakh metric tonnes.
