India's Engineering Goods Exports Surpass $100 Billion Mark
Significant Growth in Engineering Exports
New Delhi, Feb 26: Engineering goods exports from India have seen a year-on-year increase of 4.52 percent, reaching $101.13 billion during the April-January period of 2025-26. This marks the first time exports have crossed the $100 billion threshold in the current fiscal year, as reported by EEPC India on Thursday.
The growth has been primarily fueled by exports of copper, iron and steel, and motor vehicles. In January alone, engineering goods exports rose by 10.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $10.40 billion, despite a decline in shipments to the United States during this timeframe.
Exports to the US, which is India's largest market, fell by 6.8 percent year-on-year to $1.51 billion in January, down from $1.62 billion in January 2025.
Pankaj Chadha, Chairman of EEPC India, noted that a favorable base contributed significantly to the double-digit growth observed in January. He emphasized that Indian engineering exports have rebounded in most regions, which is encouraging, especially amid the ongoing shifts in global trade due to geopolitical changes.
Chadha expressed optimism that Indian engineering exports would continue to rise in the upcoming months, projecting they would exceed $120 billion in FY26.
He highlighted that recent government initiatives, particularly the Market Access Scheme, are expected to significantly boost Indian exports. This is particularly important as more Indian exporters seek to engage in global exhibitions and showcase their products internationally.
Additionally, EEPC India has urged the government to reconsider its decision to halve RoDTEP benefits, given the current challenges and uncertainties in the external environment.
Among the top 25 markets for Indian engineering goods, 19 countries experienced positive growth, while six saw a decline. Notably, exports to major markets such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Germany, the UK, Singapore, and China showed remarkable growth during this period. Exports to the UAE surged by 42.4 percent in January 2026, reaching $871.48 million, while shipments to Saudi Arabia increased by 33.3 percent to $518.58 million.
Regionally, North America and the European Union (EU) remained the leading destinations for Indian engineering goods in January.
