Market Overview


On Wednesday morning, the Sensex surged by 1,293.76 points, marking a 1.68% increase to reach 78,141.33. Meanwhile, the Nifty index climbed 366.30 points, or 1.54%, settling at 24,208.95. In total, 2,327 stocks saw gains, while 377 experienced declines, and 154 remained unchanged. Key performers on the Nifty included Interglobe Aviation, UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, Shriram Finance, and Hindalco Industries. Conversely, Dr Reddy's Labs, ONGC, and Coal India were among the notable losers.


The total market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE increased to Rs 458 lakh crore, up from Rs 449 lakh crore in the previous session, resulting in a wealth boost of Rs 9 lakh crore for investors. Early trading indicated a strong start, with the GIFT Nifty trading above 24,200, specifically at 24,209, reflecting an increase of 80 points or 0.33% from the last session, and over 331 points or 1.39% higher than Monday’s closing figures.


In the Asian markets, the MSCI Asia-Pacific index rose approximately 1.5%, while Japan's Nikkei and Hong Kong's Hang Seng both gained over 1%. Additionally, Wall Street concluded on a high note, with the Nasdaq climbing nearly 2% and the S&P 500 advancing over 1%, nearing record levels.


It is noteworthy that the Indian stock markets had faced a sharp decline on Monday, with the Sensex dropping over 700 points (0.9%) to finish at 76,848, and the Nifty falling more than 200 points to 23,843. The markets were closed on Tuesday in observance of Ambedkar Jayanti.
