Stock Market Closure Announcement

The Indian Stock Markets will be closed on Thursday in observance of Bakri Eid, also known as Eid-al-Adha. As per the official holiday schedule from the National Stock Exchange (NSE), both the NSE and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will not operate on May 28 in celebration of this significant Islamic festival. Bakri Eid, recognized as the ‘Feast of Sacrifice’, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

Looking ahead to June, there is only one market holiday scheduled for June 26, which marks the observance of Muharram on a Friday. On the last trading day, the Indian Stock Markets experienced a slight decline, marking the second consecutive day of losses. This downturn was influenced by the underperformance of major stocks, particularly HDFC Bank. At the market's close, the Sensex fell by 142 points, or 0.19%, settling at 75,867.80, while the Nifty 50 recorded a minor loss of 7 points, or 0.03%, finishing at 23,907.15.

Asian markets also opened lower on Thursday, reacting to recent military actions by the United States. South Korea’s Kospi index decreased by 0.29%, while the Kosdaq index saw a decline of 0.25%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped by 0.76%, with the Topix index also down by 0.71%. Additionally, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell by 0.75%. This market reaction followed fresh strikes by the US on an Iranian military site, shortly after President Trump remarked that Iran is ‘negotiating on fumes’. Following the attack, Kuwait reported intercepting incoming missiles and drones.
