IDFC First Bank Achieves Record Quarterly Profit Amid Strong Growth
IDFC First Bank Reports Exceptional Quarterly Results
IDFC First Bank has announced its best quarterly performance to date for the period ending June 30, 2026, achieving a remarkable profit after tax (PAT) of ₹1,075 crore. This marks a significant increase of 132.4% compared to the ₹463 crore reported in the same quarter of the previous year. The bank also demonstrated robust growth in essential financial indicators such as net interest income, deposits, and advances, while enhancing its asset quality. Nonetheless, the quarter was impacted by claims related to the CGFMU scheme concerning its microfinance sector.
The net interest income (NII) surged by 21.1% year-on-year, reaching ₹5,972.3 crore in the April-June quarter, up from ₹4,933 crore during the same timeframe last year. Profitability was further bolstered by an increase in the net interest margin (NIM), which rose to 5.96% in Q1 FY27 from 5.71% a year prior, reflecting a 25-basis-point improvement. Compared to the previous quarter, NIM saw a slight increase of 3 basis points.
Despite the impressive financial results, the bank reported in a regulatory filing that it received claims totaling ₹514.8 crore under the CGFMU scheme related to its microfinance portfolio.
Improvement in Asset Quality as Bad Loans Decrease
IDFC First Bank continued to enhance its balance sheet during the quarter, with a notable improvement in asset quality. As of June 30, 2026, gross non-performing assets (NPA) were at 1.51%, down from 1.97% in the same quarter last year, indicating a 45-basis-point enhancement. Sequentially, gross NPA improved by an additional 10 basis points. The bank emphasized its commitment to developing a high-quality institution with strong governance while sustaining healthy business growth.
Management noted that asset quality continued to improve, with gross NPA at 1.51% and net NPA at 0.44%. Provisions as a percentage of loans also decreased during the quarter. The bank acknowledged the receipt of a CGFMU claim of approximately ₹515 crore and prudently set aside a provision of ₹515 crore to mitigate potential impacts from monsoon conditions or fuel price fluctuations for the remainder of the year.
Steady Growth in Deposits
Customer deposits showed consistent growth during the quarter, increasing by 16.6% year-on-year to ₹2.99 lakh crore from ₹2.56 lakh crore a year earlier. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, deposits rose by 5.3%. Current Account Savings Account (CASA) deposits also experienced significant growth, climbing 24.6% year-on-year to ₹1.58 lakh crore from ₹1.27 lakh crore, with a sequential increase of 8.1%, reflecting ongoing improvements in the bank's low-cost funding base.
Expansion of Loan Portfolio Across Key Segments
The bank's loans and advances, including credit substitutes, grew by 20.6% year-on-year to ₹3.05 lakh crore from ₹2.53 lakh crore in the same quarter last year. Compared to the previous quarter, the loan portfolio expanded by 5.2%. This growth was primarily driven by mortgages, vehicle financing, corporate lending, and consumer loans. Additionally, the retail, agriculture, and MSME (RAM) portfolio increased by 18.2% year-on-year to ₹2.41 lakh crore from ₹2.03 lakh crore, with a sequential growth of 3.8%.
The bank also indicated that its investments over the years to strengthen its franchise are starting to yield operational leverage, contributing to the record quarterly PAT of ₹1,075 crore. The return on assets (ROA) surpassed the 1% threshold during Q1 FY27.
