Rooftop Solar Adoption in Ganjam District
Berhampur: In a remarkable shift towards renewable energy, nearly 3,000 households in Ganjam district reported zero electricity bills in May, showcasing the positive effects of rooftop solar energy initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Officials noted that 2,943 residents benefited from this initiative, positioning Ganjam as a frontrunner in Odisha for renewable energy usage.
The district has seen a substantial increase in rooftop solar installations, with 7,085 systems set up under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and an additional 4,102 through the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model by TPSODL.
These two programs have collectively enabled the installation of 11,187 rooftop solar systems in the area. The enthusiasm for solar energy is evident, with 16,760 applications submitted from Ganjam under this flagship initiative, and households are already reaping the rewards.
Trilochan Mallick, a resident of Belaguntha in Bhanjanagar, shared that his monthly electricity expenses, which used to be between Rs 600 and Rs 800, have now dropped to zero after he installed a 3-kW rooftop solar system through the scheme. Amit Kumar Garg, the CEO of TPSODL, emphasized that this success illustrates the real benefits of adopting rooftop solar and reflects the increasing consumer trust in clean energy solutions.
