HDFC Bank Set to Reappoint Sashidhar Jagdishan Amid Leadership Changes
HDFC Bank's Leadership Update
HDFC Bank is poised to reappoint Sashidhar Jagdishan for a third consecutive term as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. This decision follows the conclusion of external law firms, which found no substantial basis for the concerns raised by former chairman Atanu Chakraborty in his resignation letter.
The bank had been waiting for these legal findings before proceeding with the reappointment and the selection of a new non-executive chairman. In March, Atanu Chakraborty stepped down from his role as part-time chairman and independent director, citing issues that he felt conflicted with his personal ethics and values.
In his resignation letter, Chakraborty expressed that the developments he witnessed over the last two years did not align with his principles, prompting his immediate resignation. He emphasized that there were no other factors influencing his decision.
Recently, HDFC Bank also extended the tenure of interim non-executive chairman Keki Mistry by an additional three months. This extension was approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) just a day before Mistry's initial term was set to end on June 19. While this extension provides temporary stability in HDFC Bank's leadership, it highlights the ongoing challenges the bank faces in appointing a permanent chairman.
In response to Chakraborty's remarks, HDFC Bank stated in a stock exchange filing that the claims made by the former chairman were not supported by the evidence gathered during the legal review conducted by the two law firms.
