Guide to Using e-Pay Tax for Online Income Tax Payments
Last Day for Income Tax Returns: How to Use e-Pay Tax
As the deadline approaches for salaried individuals to submit their income tax returns by July 31, many are looking for efficient ways to file their taxes online. The e-Pay tax facility offers a quick and secure method for taxpayers to manage their tax obligations.
What is e-Pay Tax?
The e-Pay Tax service, provided by the Income Tax Department, enables taxpayers to pay direct taxes such as Advance Tax, Self-Assessment Tax, and TDS electronically. This online facility removes the necessity of visiting a bank branch, allowing users to generate a challan and make payments through various methods including Net Banking, Debit Card, UPI, or NEFT/RTGS.
Steps to Pay Income Tax Online
To initiate a payment, navigate to the e-Pay Tax section. Select the relevant tax category and assessment year, input the tax amount, and choose your preferred payment method.
Available Payment Methods on e-Pay Tax Portal
There are five different payment options available on the e-Pay Tax portal:
1. Debit Cards
Taxpayers can directly use their debit cards for payments. After entering the card details and the required OTP, a successful transaction will generate a payment proof and challan receipt.
2. Payment Gateway
This option supports various digital payment methods, including credit cards and UPI. Taxpayers can select their preferred payment mode to complete the transaction, though transaction fees may apply based on the selected gateway or bank.
3. Net Banking
This method is available through banks that facilitate tax payments on the portal. Users will be redirected to their bank's internet banking page to finalize the payment.
4. RTGS/NEFT
Taxpayers can also utilize RTGS/NEFT through any bank. By transferring the amount via internet banking, the transaction will be reflected on the e-filing portal.
5. Generating Challan Online
For those who prefer offline payments, it is possible to generate a challan online and pay at a selected bank branch using cash, cheque, or demand draft.
