Oil Prices Surge Amid US-Iran Tensions

The ongoing rise in oil prices, fueled by the intensifying conflict between the US and Iran, has sparked worries regarding the duration of this geopolitical instability. Recently, Brent Crude prices exceeded $100 per barrel, while WTI Crude prices climbed past $91 per barrel. Additionally, oil prices are poised for a notable weekly increase following Houthi assaults on tankers in the Red Sea, which raised fears about the potential closure of another critical shipping route. Kazakhstan has also temporarily reduced its output due to the shutdown of its primary export pathway.

Global oil analyst Peter McGuire remarked, "Energy prices have surged dramatically, surpassing $100 per barrel, and market fears are palpable. The price movement this week has been extraordinary, with oil rates increasing by 45% since the start of the month. Traders are now eyeing $105 per barrel as the next target by month-end." Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has indicated he is contemplating a "massive attack" on Iran, asserting that Tehran has not yet faced sufficient consequences, and he is nearing a decision to escalate military actions.

In response, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that such "mindless aggression" would result in Trump facing a "heavier price" for any deal aimed at ending the conflict. On Thursday night, the US military conducted its 13th consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets, shortly after Trump suggested he might broaden military operations with attacks exceeding those executed during Operation Epic Fury. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the latest strikes commenced at 6:45 PM ET, stating, "US forces initiated another round of strikes against Iranian military positions at 6:45 PM ET today. This marks the 13th consecutive night of operations aimed at holding Iran accountable and reducing threats from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to commercial shipping."
