Gautam Adani Surpasses Mukesh Ambani as Asia's Wealthiest Individual
Adani Takes the Lead in Asia's Wealth Rankings
Gautam Adani has overtaken Mukesh Ambani to become the richest person in Asia, marking a significant shift in the global billionaire rankings. As per the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Adani's wealth has surged to $92.6 billion, positioning him at 19th place globally. In contrast, Ambani's net worth stands at $90.8 billion, placing him 20th in the world. The competition between the two remains tight.
Adani's ascent in the Asian wealth hierarchy is attributed to the robust performance of his group's publicly traded companies. This year alone, his fortune has increased by $8.1 billion, driven by strong investor interest and rising stock prices. Notably, even on a day with subdued trading activity, shares of Adani Group rose, contributing approximately $3.56 billion to his wealth in just one trading session.
On the other hand, Mukesh Ambani has experienced a downturn in his financial standing. His net worth has decreased by $16.9 billion this year, primarily due to the underwhelming performance of Reliance Industries' stock. Although there was a minor gain of $76.7 million on a recent trading day, the overall performance of the company's shares remained largely stagnant. This divergence in stock performance between the two business magnates has been pivotal in altering their standings in Asia's wealth rankings.
Global Billionaire Rankings Show Increased Volatility
The global billionaire landscape in 2026 has been characterized by fluctuating wealth among the elite. Seven of the top 20 richest individuals have reported declines in their fortunes this year. Bernard Arnault has faced the most significant drop, losing $44 billion. Despite these changes, Elon Musk continues to hold the title of the world's richest person, with a net worth of $656 billion. Following him is Larry Page at $286 billion, with other prominent billionaires including Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, Jensen Huang, Bernard Arnault, and Jim Walton, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
