FSSAI Issues Notices to Major Food Brands Over Hygiene Concerns
Hygiene Issues Prompt FSSAI Action
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has responded to complaints circulating on social media by sending notices to several prominent food companies. KFC is under scrutiny for hygiene concerns, while Flipkart India and Open Secret face allegations regarding insect contamination in their date products. Additionally, Nestlé India has been flagged for a reported finding of insects or larvae in a packet of Maggi noodles.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) have been instructed to identify and report any shortcomings related to hygiene, sanitation, food handling, storage, waste management, pest control, and employee cleanliness. They are also required to detail any corrective and preventive measures taken in response to these issues and provide supporting documentation.
As of the time of this report, attempts to reach the involved companies for comments have not yielded any responses.
Following the notice from FSSAI, shares of Nestlé India Ltd saw a decline of over 3 percent on Friday, reflecting investor concerns regarding the insect issue in their Maggi product.
