New UPI Withdrawal Feature for EPF Members

Members of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will soon have the option to withdraw their provident fund using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The government has successfully completed the testing phase for this new feature. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced, "The testing of the facility that allows EPF withdrawals through the UPI payment gateway has been finalized. The funds will be directly credited to the member's bank account." The Labour Ministry is implementing a system where a portion of the EPF balance will remain locked, while the eligible amount can be accessed instantly through UPI-linked bank accounts.

According to reports, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized that the EPFO is taking significant steps to enhance member services, aiming to streamline the withdrawal process. Earlier this week, Ramesh Krishnamurthi, the Central Provident Fund Commissioner, informed the media about plans to expand the auto-settlement process, which will include final provident fund withdrawal claims and automate account transfers when members switch employers.

In addition to simplifying the withdrawal process, the EPFO is also looking to improve member interactions. The organization intends to utilize WhatsApp to broaden its outreach. This choice is strategic, as many mobile users are already familiar with WhatsApp for daily communication, making it an accessible platform. Reports indicate that communication via this interface will be conducted in local languages, enhancing comfort for members engaging with the EPFO, while automated systems will be available to address queries at all hours.
