Delhi's Property Market and Living Costs


According to a recent report by Deutsche Bank, Delhi holds the title of the most affordable major city globally for property purchases, although it also has one of the lowest average salaries. The report, which evaluates living costs and quality of life, highlights that Delhi offers the cheapest broadband internet worldwide, with a monthly fee of just $7.3 (approximately Rs 703), the lowest among the 69 cities analyzed.


In terms of dining out, a typical date in Delhi costs around $103 (about Rs 9,920), significantly less than the $475 (around Rs 45,750) spent in Geneva, the priciest city on the list. The report indicates that property prices in Delhi's city center are relatively low compared to global standards, averaging $2,465 per square meter (around Rs 2,37,000), placing Delhi at 65th position worldwide.


Over the past decade, property prices in Delhi have seen a decline of 9.8% in dollar terms, although there has been a recovery of 15.7% since 2019. In the 2026 rankings, Delhi is positioned 66th out of 69 cities, with a net monthly salary of $538 (around Rs 51,800), which is only 10% of what is earned in New York. Historical salary data shows fluctuations in Delhi's monthly earnings: $633 in 2012, $653 in 2016, $556 in 2019, $607 in 2025, and $538 in 2026. In contrast, Zurich leads the salary rankings with a monthly net income of $8,363 (around Rs 8,05,200).
