A Legacy in the Snack Industry

Shiv Ratan Agarwal, the visionary behind Bikaji Foods International, has sadly passed away at the age of 75. He was instrumental in transforming a local snack business into a globally recognized brand. A regulatory filing from the company revealed that Agarwal had been experiencing health issues prior to his passing. Sources indicated that he had been feeling unwell and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, where he ultimately died. Recently, Agarwal had been residing in Chennai to support his wife during her recovery from bypass surgery, as advised by doctors.

His unexpected death has left many in the business sector in shock. The company expressed its gratitude for Agarwal’s significant contributions, emphasizing his leadership and strategic vision. "Shri Shiv Ratan Agarwal was a cornerstone of the Company since its founding, establishing the brand ‘Bikaji’. His efforts were crucial in guiding the Company towards success, transforming the traditional Bikaneri snacks into the globally recognized Bikaji brand by merging authentic flavors with contemporary business strategies. His strategic insight and adeptness in navigating complex challenges have greatly enhanced our operational resilience," the company stated.

Leadership That Shaped A Brand

Agarwal’s path in the snack industry was deeply rooted in family legacy yet marked by his own ambitions. He hailed from the Agarwal family, known for founding Haldiram's, being the grandson of Gangabishan 'Haldiram' Bhujiawala. While other family members expanded the original business, Agarwal opted for a distinct route. In 1986, he initiated his own enterprise, Shivdeep Products. A few years later, in 1993, he introduced the Bikaji brand—named after Rao Bika—with the aim of sharing the authentic tastes of Bikaner with a broader audience. Over the years, Bikaji became synonymous with bhujia, namkeen, sweets, and ready-to-eat products.

Under his leadership, Bikaji transformed from a regional entity into a brand with international recognition, skillfully blending traditional recipes with modern manufacturing and distribution techniques.
