bigbasket Appoints Amit Nanda as New CEO to Drive Growth
Leadership Change at bigbasket
bigbasket, the quick commerce platform owned by Tata, has revealed that Amit Nanda, a former executive at Amazon, will take over as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Nanda replaces co-founder Hari Menon, who will transition to a mentorship role while continuing to serve on the Board alongside co-founder Vipul Parekh. This change was confirmed in a company statement.
Amit Nanda brings with him over 20 years of experience in e-commerce, consumer goods, and banking. Before joining bigbasket, he was the Director of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, where he managed the third-party marketplace. His 11-year career at Amazon also included significant contributions to the growth of the company's owned brands. Nanda has previously held senior roles at Hindustan Unilever and Citibank.
In his new position, Nanda aims to enhance bigbasket's competitive edge in the quick commerce market and drive innovation within the company. Menon expressed his enthusiasm for Nanda's appointment, highlighting his extensive experience and understanding of consumer needs as key assets for leading bigbasket into the future.
Sajith Sivanandan, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Digital, emphasized Nanda's expertise in digital commerce and consumer behavior, stating that he is well-suited to guide bigbasket's growth. Sivanandan noted the platform's vital role in Tata Digital's consumer ecosystem and looks forward to collaborating with Nanda to expand the company's reach and ambitions.
Currently, bigbasket operates in over 60 cities, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, with a network of more than 900 dark stores. The platform boasts a customer base exceeding 25 million and offers delivery for around 30,000 products.
