Important Bank Holiday Information
New Delhi. As the new work week begins on Monday, October 26, those planning to visit banks for urgent matters should first verify the holiday schedule. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), many public and private sector banks will be closed in various states despite it being a Monday. However, this closure will not be uniform across the country; it will only affect select states due to local festivals and special occasions.
On October 26, banks in Jammu and Kashmir will observe a holiday in honor of 'Accession Day,' commemorating the signing of the merger agreement with India by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947. Additionally, banks in Tripura will be closed for 'Lakshmi Puja.' States like Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh will also have bank holidays for 'Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti.' In contrast, major states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan will have banks operating as usual on Monday.
According to the holiday schedule released by the RBI, there will be a total of four bank holidays across different states from October 26 to November 1. Looking ahead, banks in Himachal Pradesh will be closed on October 29 for Karva Chauth, and on October 31, banks in Gujarat will observe a holiday for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti. Therefore, it is advisable to utilize digital banking services or check the local holiday list before heading out.
