While listing the expected benefits from the rooftop solarization program on Thursday, the finance minister said the Prime Minister's "determination" to implement the scheme after the historic inauguration ceremony is leading to its implementation.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had indicated that the move was inspired by the realization that "all devotees in the world get energy from the light of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram".

Immediately after the consecration ceremony, while carrying the X, PM Modi said, “All the devotees of the world always get energy from the light of Suryavanshi Lord Shri Ram. Today, on the auspicious occasion of Abhishek in Ayodhya, my resolve got more strength that the people of India should have their own solar roof top system on their homes. The first decision I have taken after returning from Ayodhya is that our government will launch “Pradhan Mantri Suryoday Yojana” with the target of installing rooftop solar on 1 crore houses. This will not only reduce the electricity bills of the poor and middle class, but it will also make India self-reliant in the energy sector.

She further said that the scheme is not expected to result only in savings for households, as it will also generate entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

The Finance Minister had added that families will be able to earn Rs. 100 crore every year from the free solar electricity provided with surplus to the distribution companies. Can save up to Rs 18,000.
