Anticipation Grows for Next PM-KISAN Payment Among Indian Farmers
Overview of the PM-KISAN Scheme
Farmers throughout India are keenly awaiting the upcoming payment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) initiative. The 22nd payment was disbursed on March 13, 2026, during a ceremony in Guwahati, Assam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi facilitated the transfer of funds to eligible farmers. Attention is now focused on the 23rd payment, which is projected to assist approximately 9.46 crore farming families. Although an official date for this payment has yet to be announced, the established payment schedule provides insights into when the next Rs 2,000 installment might be issued.
The PM-KISAN program operates on a systematic payment schedule, distributing financial aid in three equal installments each year. Each installment amounts to Rs 2,000, totaling an annual benefit of Rs 6,000 for qualifying farmer families. Payments are typically made every four months, with the first installment covering the April-July timeframe, the second from August-November, and the third from December-March. Given that the 22nd installment corresponds to the December 2025-March 2026 period, beneficiaries can anticipate the 23rd installment, which will cover April-July 2026, to be credited sometime between June and July 2026, assuming the current schedule remains intact.
Understanding the PM-KISAN Initiative
The PM-KISAN scheme is a Central Sector initiative aimed at providing direct financial assistance to landholding farmer families. Its primary goal is to support farmers in managing agricultural expenses and other household needs. Eligible beneficiaries receive Rs 6,000 annually, which is deposited directly into their bank accounts in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. This initiative has become one of the largest direct benefit transfer programs for farmers in the country.
To qualify for the scheme, families must own cultivable agricultural land. Typically, a family unit includes a husband, wife, and minor children whose names are recorded in the official land records of their respective State or Union Territory. However, not all land parcels are eligible; agricultural land that is non-cultivable or used for non-agricultural purposes is excluded from the benefits. State governments and Union Territories are responsible for identifying and verifying eligible beneficiaries before their names are included in the final list.
Farmers who believe they meet the eligibility criteria can contact local revenue authorities, Patwaris, or authorized agencies to complete the verification process and submit the required documentation.
How to Verify PM-KISAN Beneficiary Status
Farmers can check if their names are on the PM-KISAN beneficiary list by visiting the official portal:
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in
- Select the 'Beneficiary List' option
- Choose the State, district, sub-district, block, and village
- Click 'Get Report' to access the beneficiary list
Additionally, farmers can monitor their payment and registration status using the PM Kisan GOI mobile application. After logging in with their registration ID and Aadhaar-linked OTP, beneficiaries can view installment details, registration status, e-KYC updates, mobile number records, and other pertinent information.
Importance of Completing e-KYC
Completing the e-KYC process is essential for farmers to receive PM-KISAN benefits. This can be done through various methods, including OTP-based verification on the portal and mobile app, biometric checks at Common Service Centres (CSCs) and State Seva Kendras (SSKs), or facial recognition via the PM Kisan mobile application. The e-KYC status is typically updated within 24 hours and can be tracked through the beneficiary status section on the PM-KISAN portal or through Kisan-eMitra, the scheme’s AI-driven chatbot.
