New Delhi, Sep 9: Air India announced on Wednesday that it encountered significant disruptions following a technical issue at NATS, the air traffic control service in the UK, which impacted operations at various airports throughout the country.

The airline took to the social media platform X to inform passengers that numerous flights to and from UK airports had to be diverted, delayed, or canceled due to the ongoing disruption.

Air India also indicated that the repercussions might affect additional services, as aircraft and crew were left in non-operational positions because of the incident. Passengers were advised to verify their flight status prior to heading to the airport.

In a travel advisory posted on X, Air India stated, "We are closely monitoring the situation and are making every effort to minimize disruptions as much as possible."

Flight-tracking data revealed that over 1,000 flights were canceled across the UK as a result of the technical failure, which hindered both departures and arrivals at major airports.

NATS, responsible for managing air traffic control in Britain, reported that the disruption stemmed from a technical malfunction in its flight processing system.

This issue impacted several key airports, including Heathrow, Edinburgh, and Manchester.

Later, NATS announced that a technical solution had been implemented and the system was functioning normally again, but cautioned that it would take time to clear the backlog of delayed flights.

Heathrow Airport confirmed it was collaborating closely with NATS to mitigate the effects on passengers and flight schedules.

Additionally, the disruption extended to flights between the UK and Ireland, with Dublin Airport alerting travelers that services to and from the UK might be affected.

British Airways also reported experiencing disruptions due to the technical failure impacting the national air traffic control system.
