Leadership Change at Air India

Mumbai: Campbell Wilson, the Chief Executive Officer of Air India, which is owned by the Tata Group, has officially resigned from his role, as reported by a reliable source.

Wilson took on the position of CEO and Managing Director in July 2022, after Ilker Ayci, the former Chairman of Turkish Airlines, declined the role amidst a controversy in March 2022.

The Tata Group completed its acquisition of Air India from the government in January 2022.

According to the source, Wilson communicated his intention to resign to the Board before stepping down.

Air India has yet to release an official statement regarding this development.

Earlier this year, it was noted that the Tata Group was in search of a new leader for Air India, as Wilson's five-year term is scheduled to conclude in 2027.

Additionally, Air India Express, the airline's low-cost subsidiary, has been without a head since March 19, following the departure of Managing Director Aloke Singh after his five-year tenure.

Wilson faced significant scrutiny after a tragic incident on June 12 of last year, when a London-bound flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of 241 lives out of 242 on board the Boeing 787-8.
