New Delhi, April 7: Air India has officially announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson.

Succession Planning

The airline revealed that a committee has been formed to identify a successor in the upcoming months.

According to the airline's statement, Wilson had expressed his desire to resign in 2026 to Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran back in 2024, and has since been focused on ensuring a smooth transition for the organization and its leadership.

Wilson will continue in his position until a new CEO is appointed and ready to take over.

Wilson's Tenure and Achievements

Reflecting on his tenure, Wilson noted that the past four years since Air India's privatization have been marked by the successful integration of four airlines, a shift from public to private sector practices, and a revitalization of the leadership team, workforce, and operational culture.

He highlighted the complete modernization of systems, the introduction of new physical products, and the enhancement of service standards both on the ground and in the air, along with the addition of 100 new aircraft to the fleet.

Wilson also mentioned that the interior refurbishment of older narrowbody aircraft is nearly finished, with deliveries of widebody aircraft featuring custom-designed interiors currently in progress.

Chairman's Acknowledgment

Chairman Chandrasekaran expressed his gratitude for Wilson's contributions to Air India.

He stated, 'On behalf of the Board, I want to express my sincere appreciation for Campbell’s leadership and contributions over the last four years.'

Chandrasekaran also acknowledged the various external challenges faced by the Air India team, including ongoing post-Covid supply chain issues affecting aircraft deliveries and retrofit programs, as well as significant geopolitical challenges.

He commended Wilson and his team for their resilience and ability to unify a diverse organization towards the common goal of establishing the new Air India.
