Air India Achieves Record On-Time Performance and Customer Satisfaction
Air India's Remarkable June Performance
In a recent communication to staff, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson highlighted that June was a significant month for the airline, which is part of the Tata Group. The airline achieved an overall on-time performance (OTP) of 86%, with domestic OTP reaching an impressive 90%. Wilson attributed this success to enhanced aircraft reliability, improved operational systems, and meticulous execution, while also noting that a temporarily reduced flight schedule and favorable weather conditions played a role.
Wilson expressed satisfaction with the customer feedback regarding the airline's newly retrofitted Boeing 787 Dreamliners, stating that the response has surpassed expectations. The Net Promoter Score (NPS), a crucial indicator of customer loyalty, saw a remarkable increase of over 70 points, rising from -31 on non-retrofitted aircraft to +43 on the upgraded models. Additionally, passenger ratings for cabin comfort, inflight entertainment, and meals improved significantly, climbing from approximately 2.7 to 4.1 on a five-point scale.
In his message, Wilson remarked, "The initial customer feedback on our retrofitted B787 fleet has been incredibly encouraging. The NPS for these two retrofitted aircraft has surged by more than 70 points compared to the non-retrofitted versions, moving from -31 to +43! Customer satisfaction scores for aspects like cabin comfort, ambience, inflight entertainment, and meals have also seen a notable rise, from around 2.7 to 4.1. This validates that our new product quality is aligning with our service excellence. With another B788 on its way to California for retrofit and about eight more new or retrofitted wide-body aircraft set to enter service this year, including a new B789 arriving in India this weekend, we anticipate ongoing enhancements and positive customer feedback."
Alongside achieving record-high NPS, June also marked a significant improvement in on-time performance, with overall OTP at 86% and domestic OTP at a remarkable 90%, both figures being the highest recorded to date. While these results were aided by a temporarily reduced schedule and favorable weather, they also reflect continuous advancements in aircraft health, operational systems, and procedures. Wilson concluded by stating, "Our operations are becoming increasingly resilient, and our customers are reaping the benefits." The airline has encountered operational challenges recently, including airspace disruptions due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which led to temporary schedule adjustments across parts of its network.
