Air Conditioner Prices Set to Rise Ahead of Summer Demand
Upcoming Price Increases for Air Conditioners
As the summer season approaches, consumers can expect a rise in air conditioner prices. Leading brands have already implemented price increases of approximately 5-7 percent in March, with other manufacturers likely to follow suit within the next week to ten days, as reported by a media outlet. This price adjustment is a response to escalating input costs and the anticipation of a robust demand season. Dealers have noted that inventory levels have been rising in the March quarter, as distributors prepare for both increased demand and further price hikes.
Factors Behind the Price Increase
Several elements are contributing to the price hikes among AC manufacturers. The surge in copper prices, a crucial material for compressors and coils, has led to higher production costs. Additionally, the depreciation of the rupee has made imported components more expensive, many of which are sourced internationally. Dealers have also highlighted global supply chain challenges, particularly due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which may affect shipping routes and the availability of components. Furthermore, new energy efficiency regulations are increasing production costs as companies adapt their products to meet stricter standards.
Anticipated Demand
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted above-normal temperatures from March to May, aligning with the timing of these price hikes and expectations of a hotter summer. Industry leaders have indicated that companies may need to adjust their pricing strategies. In a discussion with a media outlet, B Thiagarajan, Managing Director of Blue Star, mentioned that air conditioner prices could potentially rise by 10 to 15 percent due to commodity inflation and regulatory changes. Last year, AC prices had decreased after the GST on air conditioners was reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent, providing some relief to consumers.
