Honda's Electric SUV Launch

In New Delhi, renowned Japanese automaker Honda is gearing up to introduce its inaugural fully electric vehicle, named Honda ALPHA, to the Indian automotive market. This eagerly awaited mid-sized electric SUV will make its global debut on December 2, exclusively in India. A key highlight of this project is that the SUV will be manufactured at Honda's facility located in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Alongside its production in India, there are plans to develop this manufacturing site into a global production hub for this model. The entry of this new vehicle is expected to significantly enhance competition in the mid-sized electric SUV segment.

Design and Features

The upcoming electric SUV is based on the well-known '0 Alpha' concept, which was first showcased in October 2025. At that time, it was indicated that the final design would closely resemble the production-ready model. Recent images of test vehicles have confirmed that many distinctive design elements from the concept have been retained in the exterior. The SUV's look is notably modern and different from Honda's traditional vehicles. It is expected to feature a straight and upright design at the rear, a wide C-pillar, and a large rear windshield, while a prominent rear bumper will give it a muscular identity. Additionally, the front profile is anticipated to include an illuminated Honda logo and a convenient charging port.

Performance and Specifications

While Honda has not yet officially disclosed the technical specifications regarding performance and power source, initial reports suggest that the vehicle may be offered with two different LFP battery options. These batteries are expected to have capacities ranging from approximately 65 kWh to 75 kWh. In the initial phase, the electric vehicle may feature a single electric motor that powers the front wheels. Detailed specifications related to the battery pack and motor will be revealed during the global debut on December 2.

Interior and Comfort

Regarding the interior and cabin, leaked images from testing have revealed several intriguing features. It is likely to include a large touchscreen infotainment unit, while the digital instrument cluster for the driver is expected to be relatively compact. The vehicle may come equipped with a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, which could also include paddle shifters. Some physical buttons have been spotted on the center console, which may be used to operate features like climate control and ventilated seats. This indicates that the company is prioritizing both modern touchscreen technology and the convenience of traditional buttons.

Spacious Design and New Logo

To enhance passenger comfort and storage space, the SUV's wheelbase may range between 2,700 to 2,800 millimeters, ensuring ample legroom and comfort within the cabin. Its straight tailgate design is expected to make the luggage area more practical and spacious. This vehicle, being manufactured at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, is historic as it will be the first model from Honda in India to feature the brand's new 'H' logo. Following its global adoption, this logo will now make its debut in India.

Market Competition

In the Indian market, the Honda ALPHA will face competition from several established and upcoming electric vehicles, including the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Maruti e-Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Abela. Given the rapidly growing demand for electric vehicles in India, this product could provide Honda with a significant opportunity to establish a strong presence. Automotive enthusiasts and customers are eagerly awaiting December 2, when the design, features, and other technical aspects of this electric SUV will be unveiled.
