Asam Sahitya Sabha Initiates Translation Project for Critical Essays

Translation Initiative Launched

Tezpur, July 14: The Asam Sahitya Sabha has embarked on a significant translation project, spearheaded by its publication sub-committee. This initiative aims to translate influential critical essays that have shaped modern thought and awareness. While some international literature, including stories, novels, and poems, has been translated into Assamese, there remains a gap in the translation of the world's most esteemed critical essays.

In the project's initial phase, a group of professors and research scholars from various universities and colleges across the state have been appointed as translators. The project is being organized under the guidance of notable academics such as Prof Madan Sarma, Prof Bibhash Choudhury from Gauhati University, Prof Jyotirmoy Pradhani from North-Eastern Hill University, Prof Hemjyoti Medhi from Tezpur University, Prof Mridul Bordoloi from Dibrugarh University, Prof Arindam Sharma from Chaiduar College, and Prof Arindam Borkotoky from Tezpur University.

The official launch of the project took place on Friday. The editorial team comprises Prof Madan Sarma and Prof Bibhash Choudhury as chief editors, with Prof Arindam Borkotoky serving as the convener and editor.

A press release from Debajit Bora, the principal secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, indicated that the translation tasks have been assigned to various scholars, including Juri Dutta from Tezpur University, Dibya Khataniar from Guwahati College, Lakhipriya Gogoi from Dibrugarh University, Prasanjit Das from KK Handiqui Open University, and many others from institutions like B Borooah College, Pandu College, and Royal Global University, among others.
