West Indies Cricketer Faces Sexual Assault Allegations from Multiple Women
Allegations Against West Indies Cricketer
A cricketer from the West Indies, currently participating in a home Test series against Australia, has been accused of sexually assaulting 11 women, including a minor. This alarming revelation surfaced during the first Test match at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Details of the Allegations
The allegations were brought to light by a teenage victim who shared her experience with a local news outlet in Guyana, prompting an ongoing investigation. The victim's mother expressed frustration over the lack of support from authorities, claiming attempts were made to cover up the incident. The report indicated that at least eleven women have accused the cricketer of sexual misconduct.
Victim's Mother's Account of the Incident
According to the report, the teenage victim's mother recounted that her daughter was picked up by the accused cricketer from Berbice, Guyana, in March 2023. The family was familiar with the cricketer, leading the mother to feel no concern for her daughter's safety.
The victim informed her mother that she was going out with the cricketer, believing she would be safe as there were others present at the location they visited.
The Incident Unfolds
However, the situation escalated when the cricketer took her to a residential block in New Amsterdam, where he allegedly assaulted her. The victim's mother described the traumatic event, stating, "He ripped off her pants, held her down, and did what he wanted. My child has not been the same since."
Concerns Over Investigation Handling
Following the incident, the victim underwent a medical examination, which resulted in her suffering from side effects due to the prescribed medication. The mother emphasized that they were not seeking financial compensation but rather justice for her daughter.
The family claims to possess substantial evidence, including phone records and eyewitness accounts, which they believe were disregarded by the police. They also noted that the accused was released on bail shortly after reporting the incident.
Cricketer's Background and Ongoing Investigation
The cricketer, who played a significant role in the West Indies' notable Test victory against Australia in 2024, remains unnamed pending the investigation's outcome. A lawyer representing one of the victims stated that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has recommended charges against the cricketer.
Cricket West Indies' president, Kishore Shallow, stated that the board is currently unaware of the situation and cannot comment further.
