Yuvraj Singh Predicts Record for Six Sixes in an Over Will Soon Be Broken
Yuvraj Singh Reflects on His Historic Achievement
Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer renowned for being the only player from India to hit six sixes in a single over during international cricket, has expressed his belief that this record may soon be surpassed. He finds it astonishing that this milestone has remained intact for such a long time, especially considering the rapid evolution of the sport. Singh made history in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 when he struck six consecutive sixes off England's Stuart Broad. Although Kieron Pollard from the West Indies and Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee have since matched this feat in T20Is, Singh remains the sole Indian to achieve it on the international stage.
Anticipating Change in the Record
During an event for his nutrition supplement, Protocol32, Singh shared his thoughts on the longevity of his record. He stated, "The record is going to break very soon; the fact that it's not breaking is surprising, but the way the game is going, I'm sure it will break very soon."
Commending Abhishek Sharma's Efforts
Yuvraj, who has taken on a mentorship role for Abhishek Sharma, commended the young batter's dedication and hard work. He noted that Sharma's ascent to the top of the ICC T20I rankings is a testament to his exceptional effort. Recently, Sharma delivered an impressive performance, scoring 113 runs off just 38 balls against New Zealand in the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series, helping India chase down a target of 199 in a mere 13.2 overs at Hnry Stadium.
"Abhishek has worked incredibly hard. The player who has been number one for the last two or three years must have put in four times the effort of an average player. Anyone aspiring to reach that level must be prepared to work significantly harder; there are no shortcuts," Singh remarked. In his T20I career, Abhishek has accumulated 2,267 runs in 71 matches, boasting an average of 33.33 and a strike rate of 196.61, including four centuries and 14 fifties, with a top score of 135. He currently ranks as India's fifth-highest T20I run-scorer, just over two years post his T20I debut.
