Young Spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey Poised for Test Debut Against Afghanistan

As India gears up for a one-off Test against Afghanistan, young spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey are poised for their potential debuts. Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate hints at a likely debut for one of them, while discussing the team's composition and the need for fresh faces after the IPL. Both players have impressive first-class records, making their inclusion in the squad highly anticipated. India's promising young spinners, Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey, are on the brink of their Test debuts as the team prepares to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test match scheduled for June 6 in Mullanpur. Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate indicated that it is likely one of them will make their debut in the upcoming match.


Coach Discusses Team Composition and Player Readiness

During a recent press conference, ten Doeschate shared insights on the team's lineup, stating, "The likelihood of both players participating in the Test is quite low. While we haven't finalized our combination, I anticipate that Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar will be included, along with one of the two spinners."


He further noted, "With seven players from the Gujarat Titans who recently competed in the IPL final just five days ago, it’s beneficial to have fresh talent. Our primary focus now is to rejuvenate the squad and prepare them for the Test match in a few days."


Statistics of Debut Contenders

Harsh Dubey, who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year's IPL, has taken eight wickets across eight matches with an average of 28.50, positioning him for his international debut. In his first-class career, he has claimed 133 wickets in 27 matches at an impressive average of 23.26, boasting best figures of 6/36, along with nine five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls. Additionally, he has scored 1,027 runs in 44 innings at an average of 25.65, including nine fifties.


On the other hand, Rajasthan all-rounder Manav Suthar has also made a mark with 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches at an average of 25.76, featuring best figures of 8/33, six five-wicket hauls, and three ten-wicket hauls. He has accumulated 945 runs in 48 innings at an average of 25.54, including one century and six fifties, with a top score of 120. This season, he took two wickets in four matches for the Gujarat Titans at an average of 34.00.
