Yashasvi Jaiswal: From Selling Golgappas to Cricket Stardom
The Journey of Hard Work and Determination
Hard work, dedication, and passion are the three key elements that can turn any dream into reality, regardless of one's financial status. Take the story of young cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal, for instance. Once a golgappa vendor, Yashasvi endured many nights sleeping hungry in a tent. However, he never let these challenges deter him. Instead, he faced every obstacle with determination, and his success story is sure to inspire many.
Leaving Home at Just 10 Years Old
Yashasvi hails from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, where his father runs a small shop and his mother is a homemaker. As the youngest in the family, Yashasvi had dreams of becoming a cricketer. To pursue this dream, he left home for Mumbai at the tender age of 10. His father did not stop him, as they lacked the financial means to support his aspirations.
Selling Golgappas on the Streets
In Mumbai, Yashasvi began working at a stall selling water-puri (golgappas) and fruits during the day. Occasionally, he would play cricket with other boys. He prayed that none of his teammates would see him at the golgappa stall, fearing embarrassment. By performing well in cricket, he managed to earn between 200-300 rupees a week.
Transforming His Life
While Yashasvi's days were manageable, his nights were often tough. He would sometimes cry for hours, missing his family. The boys living in the tent would often argue over cooking responsibilities, with Yashasvi being tasked with making the bread. Unlike others who brought homemade lunches, he had to prepare his own, and on tough days, he would ask others for breakfast.
A Life-Changing Opportunity
At Azad Maidan, Yashasvi often searched for lost cricket balls to earn some money. One day, while playing, he caught the attention of coach Jwala Singh, who recognized his talent and offered him cricket coaching. Under his guidance, Yashasvi's skills flourished, and he became an exceptional cricketer, always grateful to his coach.
Setting Records
Yashasvi gained media attention when he scored a double century and three centuries, amassing 504 runs in five matches during the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him the youngest player to achieve this feat. He also hit 12 sixes in a single innings, a record that remains unbroken. His impressive performance in the Under-19 Asia Cup further showcased his talent.
A Bright Future Ahead
In the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, Yashasvi scored a century and four half-centuries, totaling 400 runs and earning the title of 'Player of the Tournament.' As a result, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for 2.4 crores during the IPL auction. Currently, he is making headlines for his remarkable performance in the Irani Trophy, where he scored a double century and a century against Madhya Pradesh, etching his name in the record books.
