Wrestlemania 42: Major Changes in Championship Matchups

Wrestlemania 42 is set to feature significant changes in its main event lineup, particularly with the championship match between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. Following a title change on Smackdown, Cody has emerged as the new champion, leading to a reshuffling of anticipated matchups. Drew McIntyre's reign has come to an end, raising questions about Orton's potential heel turn. As the event approaches, fans are eager to see how these developments will unfold, especially with Jacob Fatu also entering the fray. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting wrestling event.

Wrestlemania 42 Main Event Update

The anticipated main event for Wrestlemania 42 featuring Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre has undergone a significant alteration following a title change during Smackdown. Cody Rhodes triumphed over McIntyre in the main event, securing his position as a three-time Undisputed WWE Champion. Shortly after his victory, Randy Orton took to X to acknowledge Rhodes, stating, "See you next week in Phoenix, Cody Rhodes." Orton earned his shot at the title by winning the Elimination Chamber match, where Cody was notably the last competitor eliminated.

During the main event, McIntyre made a notable impact by attacking Cody. In response to McIntyre's actions, Nick Aldis, the General Manager of Smackdown, granted Cody a title match despite his earlier loss in the Elimination Chamber.

At Wrestlemania 42, this will mark the second singles encounter between Cody and Orton since Cody's return to WWE. Previously, Cody defeated Orton in the finals to claim the King of the Ring title in 2025, later going on to reclaim the WWE Championship from John Cena at SummerSlam. It remains uncertain if Orton will adopt a heel persona leading into Wrestlemania, as he is a 14-time World Champion and could surpass Triple H with a victory at the upcoming event.

Drew McIntyre's Championship Reign Concludes

McIntyre's defeat signifies the end of his underwhelming 57-day title reign. He had previously defeated Cody on the second Smackdown of 2026 to claim the championship. Despite being the champion, McIntyre faced a series of five consecutive losses to Cody during live events leading up to the Royal Rumble. He managed to retain his title against Sami Zayn at the Royal Rumble but subsequently lost to Cody again after the event. His first televised title defense ended in defeat against Cody on Smackdown.

Jacob Fatu also made an appearance during the Smackdown main event and appears poised to challenge McIntyre at Wrestlemania 42. Fatu previously won the United States Championship at Wrestlemania 41, while McIntyre had a successful outing against Damian Priest at the last Wrestlemania.
