RCB Coach Praises Asha Sobhana's Move

Malolan Rangarajan, the coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed his delight over Asha Sobhana's successful transition to a new team during the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction held on Thursday. Sobhana was acquired by UP Warriorz for ₹1.10 crore, marking a significant milestone in her career.

Previously, Sobhana played a crucial role for RCB, taking 17 wickets in 15 matches, contributing significantly to the team's success.

RCB's Strategy and Future Plans

During a press conference, Rangarajan shared his thoughts on Sobhana's departure, stating, "Asha was vital to our victory in 2024, and we certainly felt her absence in 2025 due to her injury. Personally, I am thrilled for her; she truly deserves this payday. Knowing her personally, I couldn't be happier for her."

He also discussed RCB's auction strategy, emphasizing their focus on enhancing their bowling lineup while retaining key players. "We have achieved most of our goals and are pleased with our current position, although there is still some work to be done," he added.

Mumbai Indians Secure Amelia Kerr

In a notable move, the Mumbai Indians signed New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr for ₹3 crore during the WPL 2026 auction. At just 25 years old, Kerr has been instrumental in the MI squads that clinched two WPL titles.

Lisa Keightley, head coach of the Mumbai Indians, expressed her enthusiasm about retaining the core team. "We are thrilled to have our key players back, as they are world-class talents capable of winning matches. Consistency within the team can provide a competitive edge," she remarked.

Keightley further stated, "We were aware of our budget constraints, but we believe Kerr is worth the investment, and we are excited to have her return." Over three WPL seasons, Kerr has accumulated 437 runs and taken 40 wickets, earning the Purple Cup last season with 18 wickets.
