New Delhi, July 7: In recognition of the systematic efforts made by the Interim Committee to bring back transparency and stability to the Boxing Federation of India, World Boxing has decided to extend the Committee's term, led by Ajay Singh, until August 31, 2025.

Initially appointed in April, the Interim Committee has been managing daily operations effectively. During its first 90 days, the Committee organized structured domestic championships and international competitions across various age groups (U15, U17, and Elite), prioritizing the athletes' needs to help restore Indian Boxing's former prestige.

In a letter sent to Singh on Monday, Boris van der Vorst, the president of World Boxing, commended the Interim Committee for its 'Athletes First' strategy, which has facilitated the ongoing participation of Indian boxers in significant international contests, leading to successful podium finishes.

Vorst expressed satisfaction with the Committee's effective functioning and noted the considerable progress made in reinstating transparency and stability within the national boxing framework. He emphasized that World Boxing is closely observing the developments in Indian boxing and is encouraged by the athletes' consistent success in international competitions, which reflects the positive initiatives taken under Singh's leadership.

He further urged the Interim Committee to continue overseeing the BFI's operations to ensure that Indian athletes can participate seamlessly in upcoming domestic and continental events.

Recently, Indian boxers achieved remarkable success at the World Boxing Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing a total of 11 medals, including three gold and five silver. They also performed admirably in Brazil and Thailand, showcasing their talent on the international stage.

Vorst's correspondence also highlighted his recent discussions with PT Usha, the president of the Indian Olympic Association, who praised the Interim Committee's ongoing efforts.
