Pat Cummins Set to Join Australia for Second Ashes Test

New Delhi: Australia’s cricket team is expected to welcome back Pat Cummins for the upcoming second Ashes Test, following their recent win in Perth.

While earlier reports suggested uncertainty regarding the captain's participation in the match at the Gabba starting December 4, confirmation has now emerged that Cummins will be included in the squad set to be announced on Friday.

No additional players are anticipated to join the Australian lineup, leaving the batting order in question due to Usman Khawaja's back issues and Travis Head's remarkable century in the first Test's fourth innings.

Initially, there were fears that Cummins might miss the entire series due to a bone stress issue in his back, which was disclosed in September. However, he has successfully completed intense bowling sessions, including rigorous practices in Perth before and after the Ashes opener.

On Thursday, Brendan Dodgett expressed some uncertainty about Cummins' availability for the second Test, noting that while Cummins is recovering well, he is mentally prepared to step in if needed.

"Pat is looking quite good in the nets now, so we will see how that develops. I will focus on what I can control, keep my fitness up, and continue improving in every session and match. If I am called upon for the second Test, I feel ready to perform," Dodgett stated, as reported by cricket.com.au.

When asked about any updates from the selectors regarding the second Test, Dodgett mentioned, "We are enjoying the victory and allowing everyone to return to their families. We will arrive in Brisbane on Sunday, so I expect discussions about the lineup will begin then."
